Our commitment
Mediterranean Open WCS is a celebration of West Coast Swing—its vibrant music, joyful movement, and rich heritage. This event welcomes dancers of all ages and champions the values of education, creativity, open-mindedness, and playfulness in the West Coast Swing community. Our mission is to support and grow this community by fostering meaningful connections and sharing the love of the dance.
We are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all. To ensure this, all attendees, instructors, staff, and volunteers are expected to adhere to our code of conduct. The organizers will actively enforce these guidelines throughout the event. Your cooperation is essential in maintaining a respectful and inclusive atmosphere—because we genuinely care.
Your safety is important
Mediterranean Open WCS is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone—regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (or lack thereof).
Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. This includes offensive comments, sexual imagery in public, intimidation, stalking, unwelcome photography or recording, disruption of events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwanted sexual attention.
Anyone asked to stop harassing behavior is expected to comply immediately. Violations may result in warnings or removal from the event without refund, at the discretion of the organizers.
If you experience or witness harassment, please contact event directors immediately. We’re here to help ensure everyone feels safe and supported throughout the event.
These rules apply at all event venues, including dances, workshops, and social spaces.
Useful Guidelines
- Dance inclusively. Make sure everyone feels welcome. A second or third dance should only happen with clear mutual interest.
- No teaching on the floor. Social dances and classes are for fun and learning, not giving unsolicited feedback. Save advice for revision sessions or when it’s asked for.
- Respect physical boundaries. Be mindful of your partner’s comfort, injuries, experience, height, and limits. Avoid forceful leads, improper hand placement, or risky moves like folds, dips, drops and ducks without clear, safe execution.
- Take Care of Yourself: Know your limits. Get enough rest, maintain hygiene, and take your medications if needed.
- Consent matters. You can say “No thanks” to a dance, no explanation needed. If someone declines, respect it without question. Always ask clearly (e.g., “Would you like to dance?”) and wait for an enthusiastic “yes”—never grab or assume.
- Stick to West Coast Swing. This is a WCS event. If you want to dance a different style, ask your partner first. Don’t mix other styles into WCS dances without consent—especially not as an impromptu lesson.
- Choose your role freely. Lead or follow—it’s up to you. Beginners are encouraged to start with one role, but all role and gender pairings are welcome and respected.
- Respect personal space. Dance is vulnerable. Help make it safe and enjoyable by honouring each person’s boundaries.
- Dance Floor Awareness. Stay alert to avoid collisions or injuries. Be aware of your and your partner’s positioning, as well as those around you.
- Respect Event Staff: Treat staff respectfully, even if you’re feeling frustrated.
- Be kind. You don’t have to engage with everyone, but always be civil. Politeness helps keep our community warm and welcoming.
